Hello @ll,

I would like to know if any of you knows where I can buy this kind of plastic containers :
As I do live in France, I would prefer European contacts...

A friend of mine gave me many 10 years ago and I would like to buy more of these...

Hi David,
we use almost identical types of containers to store the shell collection in the museum where I am honorary curator of mollusca. We buy them from a company in Germany, I can't remember the company's name but I will be at the museum on Thursday so I will get the info for you then and post it here.
Cheers for now,
Dave.
P.S. That is a nice histrio on the left of the picture!

Dear Dave,

Thanks for answering
I'll wait your contact, it's not urgent
Good to ear that you are related to a shell museum !!

Effectively the histrio is interesting, I found only
2 specimens of this variation in the Seychelles on the same
reef. This variation can be "related to the nigers" as they are becoming really dark and the base in more inflated and clear.
I know that some have been found in Mauritius too.

Happy Shelling
DAVID

Hi David,
I have been to the museum today and got the information for you.
The company is in Germany and is called  Stereo-Optik, Renate Grosch. www.stereo-optic-grosch.de
I only have a german catalogue, I don't know if they have a French one but the boxes are called;Micro-Mount-Kastchen und Zubehor.
Best bet is to e.mail Renate Grosch and ask for a catalogue. They do everything for minerals and fossils from boxes and stands to microscopes and I can say that they give very good service (but we do tend to order the boxes by the hundreds!)
Hope this is of help,
Dave.

No problem, hope you find them as useful as we did.
Incidentally, I do not work in a shell museum (there aren't many of those in England!) I am honorary curator of Mollusca in the county museum of Kent.
BTW, that histrio does look like a New Caledonian special, melanistic and rostrate. A good find indeed.

Hello,

I visited the website. Thanks again
By the way I have never seen any other local specie becoming "melanistic". It seems to touch only Cypraea histrio. Cypraea arabica is rare locally though...

Regards

Just as an aside. The small snap lock plastic boxes so useful for displaying and protecting your smaller shells can often be bought very reasonably through your local sports or bait store.
They are used for waxies and other small bait items. I get them for about twenty two cents apiece which is much less than I've seen them offered on shell sites. Also the larger boxes can often be found on ebay from dealers in sports cards. made to hold anywhere from fifty to a hundred and fifty cards they can hold a fairly good sized shell.and are usually pretty reasonable
if you buy in bulk. And somehow I seem to use them up all too quickly. Just FYI
Gary
