Hi there, it's hard to tell from the top ( a photograph from the front is always better) but it is probably the Giant Tun shell Tonna galea ( Linne. 1758) This species is virtually worldwide in distribution being found also in the Atlantic, Indo-Pacific and Caribbean sea as well as the Mediterranean. I believe the animals are carnivores feeding on sea urchins and starfish and maybe carrion.
