At least I think it's a land snail, and extinct at that. Here are two pics of my shell:

This is Papustyla pulcherrima, from Manus Island, New Guinea. It isn't extinct but it is endangered and protected.

Thank you so much for your kind help! I'm glad the snail isn't yet extinct. The example I have is "vintage", so I haven't further endangered the little critters.

Most specimens of this species in collections are "vintage" since it has been illegal to import them for quite a few years. I read about a large shipment of jewelry that was refused entry to the United States when customs opened a box and saw one piece of jewelry that had this shell as part of it.
